Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere, stretching almost 2 kilometres out to sea. Since the beginning of its construction in 1863 to the present day, the jetty has survived frequent fires, borers, weathering and Cyclone Alby.
During the 2010 restoration, the jetty was temporarily closed to the public, which allowed local cormorants to set up on the uncapped piers. Each evening the birds would congregate on the pilings, chittering about the day’s adventures like a family gathering around the hearth.
