Meeting of the Waters
Oil on canvas
50cm x 40cm, 20”x16”
The meeting of the salt and fresh waters have always attracted my attention. It takes a special kind of sea life to survive on these borders and cope with the twice-daily change in salinity and water levels.
On this particular day, I was exploring all the nooks and crannies of the west coast of Vancouver Island and came upon this brackish juncture, a small watercourse carved into the sand.
I knew that if I came back to the same place another day, the watercourse would have a different shape, forged by the tidal movements, the amount of rainfall, ever-shifting and this, my moment frozen in time.
