A moment of still, a reprieve from the chaos and bustle of everyday life.
It is no wonder that Zen gardens often feature lily ponds. A single, perfectly still moment on the surface of the water, no matter how fleeting, is a good metaphor for the stillness we all aim for in meditation. When we can tame the ‘monkey mind’ swinging endlessly from thought to thought, emotion to emotion, and experience a moment of clarity, of pure quiet and stillness, our hearts and our minds become open to everything.
